On the effect of eccentricity of holes bored-out in Sachs method

Abstract
The Sachs boring-out method is used for determining the axially symmetrical residual stresses in circular cylinders. However, when holes bored-out in a circular cylinder layer by layer are not exactly concentric, the above method will not be satisfactory, owing to the eccentricity of holes, to estimate the residual stresses in the cylinder.
Since it is usually accepted that dimensional changes caused by any relaxation of stresses are purely elastic, the authors analyze the effect of eccentricity on the deformation of a cylinder on purely elastic theory, and give the numerical evaluations.
