The wear of high speed steel tool, (8°, 27°, 6°, 6°, 6°, 15°, 1.2mm), in cutting a 60-40 brass bar was studied by measuring the surface roughness of the turned bar. The cutting with the main spindle speed of 1800rpm, the feed of 0.10mm/rev, and the depth of cut of 0.50mm resulted in the tool life of about 90min,
