Abstract
Since 1961, field observation has been carrying out at the Tottori Sand-dune (a narrow sense), and rec-ently many new data on the formation of the dune were added. The Tottori Sand-dune is divided into two stages, namely the old Dune and the new dune. Furthermore, the younger one is divided into two beds, by means of the black humic sand (Kurozuna), namely the New Dune Ⅰ and the New Dune Ⅱin ascending order. The ceramics and stone implements of the Yayoi, Haji and Sue cultures were found in the black humic sand, by which chronological divisions of the dune had been attempted. The accumulation rates of the brown sand was estimated from the burried root of pine.
