Separation of Caions by Ion-exchangers (Ⅷ) : Cation-exchange Equilibrium of Titanium

Abstract
Cation exchange equilibrium of Titanium was studied in this papaer. The exchangers used were Diaion SK # 1, Dowex 50W-X8, Ameberlite CG-120 Type Ⅰ, Type Ⅱ and Type Ⅲ. The standard solution containing 600mg/1 as TiO₂ and 0.5g resin was diluted to just 50 or 100 ml with distilled water, pH of the solution being controlled from 1 to 2 with ammonia. After agitating the solution for several hours and leaving it for one night, Titanium in the solution was determined in colorimetric method and pH in volumetric titration. Then the selective coefficient and equivalent fraction were calculated with the determined values of [H⁺], [Ti⁴⁺], [HR] and [TiR₄]. The calculated values of these equilibrium constants were compared with each other, under the different condition of quantity and pH of the solution. The selective coefficient of Titanium is found to be rather small, analogous to Magnesium and Manganese. This result will supply useful data for cation-exchange separation of Titanium fron other cations.
