While students feel that the content of historical studies has a storyline and is easy to understand in relation to historical backgrounds, they feel that geographical studies are mainly memorizing geographical events. Therefore, we hypothesized that if students could deepen their understanding of geography by making active use of the map books distributed with the textbooks and relating various information, and if they could promote conceptual understanding by solving atypical problems through “cooperative inquiry learning,” their motivation for learning geography would increase, and we undertook to practice this in class. The results of the practice showed that students were more motivated to learn geographical areas. As a result of the practice, the students' motivation for learning geography increased, but there were some problems in increasing their sense of fulfillment in tasting the essence of
