Actual interaction with a foreigner provides students with the experience of communicating in English about themselves and their ideas, and at the same time, it allows them to learn about the culture of the other country and the other person's own ideas. Students are aware of the cultural backgrounds and preferences of the people to whom they write, and consider what to write and how to express themselves appropriately in English. As a result of this exchange with Taiwanese junior high school students, many students' enthusiasm for English writing activities and interest in foreign countries tended to improve as they continued to practice writing coherent English sentences while reading manuscripts together in
